Counselling

The aim of our counselling service is to encourage good emotional health and well-being in the young people of York. We do this by offering you the chance to reflect on your life in depth, and to begin to take more control over it. We are a confidential service and so can only share information with your permission or where there is a safety issue for you or another person.
The service is staffed by the same counsellors who worked for the Youth Enquiry Service, they are all qualified people who have a lot of experience of working with young people, and an understanding of the issues that affect them. It is a free service and you can ring up and arrange a time to see one of the counsellors for a 'First Contact' appointment where you can find out more about counselling and decide whether it is for you.
The service is very popular, so there is normally a wait (this can be two to three months) before your start work with your own counsellor. We check out how you will manage this wait at First Contact and whether there are things you could be doing, or other services you could get which could help you to cope better with life.
Most of our appointments are during the working day from Monday to Friday. We do have some sessions in the early evenings, but they are popular so waiting times can be longer.
If you have any questions about counselling or want some more information either call us on 01904 555400 or call in to the drop-in.
